Madama Butterfly graphicIn less than 18 hours I crossed the spectrum of Tucson Culture.  Friday’s “Arizona Daily Star” had this article/review of the Opera Madama Butterfly

Friday night was one of those special nights.  It was the night we had planned for over four months, keeping tickets to see this opera a secret.

All went pretty much as planned and our surprised recipient of the night at the opera was completely surprised and thrilled.  Barbara had wanted to see this opera for years and thanks to Courtney (the 17 year old social planner and keeper of secrets) tickets were secured for ideal seats right in the middle.

While we were waiting for the opera to start I pictured a scene with great drama and everyone quietly watching the performance when I would stand up and take a flash picture for this blog post.  The scene played out with a gasp from the audience, everyone on stage stopping the performance in horror and me quickly being ushered from the building banned for life.

The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show is in full swing.  Rain several days this week had put a damper on attendance.  Friday night was clear and crisp and attendance was good gauging by the traffic getting to the opera.

Chuckecheese

Saturday morning about 11 AM we were due to be at Chuck E Cheese for a niece’s birthday party. (I forgot my ear-plugs)  As I walked into the place with loud music and excited kids running and dancing everywhere I couldn’t help but think of the contrast from the night before. The kids loved the party, they paraded around danced the hockey pokey ate pizza and played games.  It was a great experience for the kids and the staff works very hard to make it a fun time.  The adults took either Aleve or Advil after a couple of hours of fun.

I know there are some that believe there is no culture in Tucson that simply is not true, there is a wide variety of cultural expereinces here fitting just about any lifestyle.

It is winter and going to be 75 degrees today.  I can be inside or out in shorts if I want.  Going to the Opera or Chuck E Cheese is an option and I don’t have to fight snow to do it.

Personally, I would take the Opera and that even surprises me.
